What is the one thing you should do when your computer freezes at startup? Most everyone who uses a computer on a daily basis has had this happen to them. The more recent Microsoft Operating Systems have a great utility called ‘Last Known Good Configuration’. Yeah, you’re probably saying ‘what in the world is that, and why do I care’. This is something that every computer user not only needs to be familiar with, but also needs to know how to use it.
A computer that does not boot up is typically having issues with its hardware, driver, or a corrupt system file. Let me show you exactly what you should do if this ever happens to you. Just follow the steps below:
- Turn your computer off and let it sit for 10 or 15 seconds
- Turn your computer back on and then proceed to hit the F8 key repeatedly until you see a menu called the Windows Advanced Options. This menu contains a list of different boot options, but we are only concerned with one in particular.
- Use your down arrow key to select Last Known Configuration (your most recent settings that worked)
- Hit the Enter Key
I am not willing to guarantee that your computer will boot properly, but there is a very good chance it will boot normally and you will be back in business!
