Can You Build Your Own PC?
Thanks to the rapid advancement of the internet, having a computer is pretty much compulsory for anyone who wants to take part in society. Banking is now largely done online, business is done through website, email and through software downloaded from the internet and social media has become the number one way for many people to interact. What this means is that if you don’t have a PC you are cut off from many of the opportunities the internet and other PC applications offer you.
So how would you like to build your own PC? This would allow you to sidestep much of the large computer shops charges and also give you the ability to repair and replace components of your computer in the future. Here is a brief guide to building your own PC:
Components
A computer is basically a bunch of components screwed inside a box and wired together. Software is then installed which allows you to run programs. Once you have plugged in your internet cable you can then use these programs to go online. The standard components you will need include: a motherboard which is the hub into which all you other components operate; a hard drive which is your storage device for all your data; a graphics card which lets your computer process all the visual aspects of your PC; a fan to make sure everything stays cool; a power supply to get electricity to all the right places; drives so that you can put CD’s into your computer and finally a modem to connect you to the internet (though these are often included in motherboards).
Instructions
To put all these in and in the right places you will need to get an instruction manual. The crucial one you need is the one for your motherboard as it will tell you where to connect all your components. Your instruction manual will walk you through what to connect where and should also include suggestions of where to attach things to your box.
Professionals
There are many professional companies which will be able to help you with your DIY desktop computer packages but if you really want to make your perfect custom built PC you should only use them to get some advice if anything goes wrong.
Software
Finally you will need to install some software. This should include first and foremost: an operating system. This is what you will use to interact with your computer in a way you can easily understand and will normally include a range of applications like a word processor and an internet browser.
